Why do we need a Hub?
The Hub exists to encourage the pursuit of large sustainability research grants by reducing administrative burden on Principal Investigators (PIs) and facilitating collaboration. We have heard from faculty that it is very time consuming to apply for and manage large-scale interdisciplinary grants. That said, the nature of sustainability research is inherently multidisciplinary and collaborative. We can provide research administration support for those that may not have those services within their department, or who need help coordinating across stakeholders. The Hub’s goal is to increase interdisciplinary sustainability research on campus.
Who can work with the Hub?
The Hub is here to serve environmental sustainability-related research projects on campus, and partners with UW-Madison PIs. The Sustainability Advisory Council has created a definition of sustainability for campus that we encourage you to explore to see where your work might fit.
We prioritize projects that feature two or more of the following: large budgets, interdisciplinary or multidisciplinary, facilitate new research, create new collaborations, and/or support emerging investigators.
As a provider of both connection and coordination, we encourage all interested groups to reach out and see if we can help bring your project to campus.
How do I work with the Hub?
The details of each engagement will be unique, but all projects will have an initial intake meeting with our Collaboration Specialist to identify the areas where Hub support is most needed. All interested researchers should CONNECT with the Hub team so we can learn more about you and your project. In an initial meeting we’ll explore questions about scope, scale, collaborators, and funding details. From there, Hub staff will identify what support we can offer, and create an action plan.
What do services cost?
The Hub is internally funded and does not charge fees for our services. Additionally, we do not retain any portion of indirect costs. We encourage you to reach out and see how our team can help you bring sustainability research funding to campus.
